The Wheel of the Year

Eight festivals mark the turning of the wheel — solstices, equinoxes, and the four fire festivals between them. This is not a calendar. It is a way of being in time.

Understanding the Wheel

Solar Festivals

The solstices (Yule, Litha) and equinoxes (Ostara, Mabon) are astronomically fixed — determined by the sun’s position.

Fire Festivals

The cross-quarter days (Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh, Samhain) fall between the solar festivals. These are the great fire festivals of the Celtic tradition.

The Gold Needle

The golden line on the wheel marks today’s position. It moves clockwise through the year, connecting you to the current moment in the cycle.

Pulsing Ring

The gently pulsing ring around a festival marker indicates the current season — the festival whose energy is most present right now.
